I just returned from an unforgettable long weekend in Palm Springs, and I can’t wait to share the stunning mid-century modern homes, vibrant art scene, and hidden culinary gems I discovered.

If you love iconic architecture, history, and effortless luxury, then you won’t want to miss Mini Modernism Week (October 17-20, 2025)—the perfect way to experience Palm Springs Modernism without the February crowds.

Let’s dive into the must-visit homes, hotels, restaurants, and exclusive events that made my trip so special.

I thoroughly enjoy the sunny valley of Palm Springs!

Hotel Casa Cody, Palm Spring, California

Where to Stay in Palm Springs: A Historic Boutique Retreat

Hotel Casa Cody – The Best Historic Hotel in Palm Springs

For starters, I checked into Casa Cody, the city’s oldest operating hotel, originally founded in 1916 by Harriet Cody, a cousin of Buffalo Bill. This Spanish Colonial Revival-style retreat has long been a hideaway for Hollywood stars and artists, offering a peaceful oasis just steps from downtown Palm Springs.

What Makes Casa Cody Special:
✔️ Charming casitas & bungalows – Some come with fireplaces, clawfoot tubs, and private patios.
✔️ Lush gardens & citrus trees – A serene escape with breathtaking mountain views.
✔️ Historic charm & celebrity history – This hotel has hosted Old Hollywood icons looking for a quiet desert retreat.

If you love historic boutique stays with a touch of luxury, Casa Cody is a must-visit for Modernism Week.

Best Mid-Century Modern Home Tours at Modernism Week 2025

Palm Springs is home to some of the most iconic mid-century modern homes in the world. During my trip, I explored these stunning architectural masterpieces that are usually closed to the public.

Albert Frey House II – The Ultimate Desert Perch

Albert Frey House II, a famous mid-century modern home in Palm Springs

Perched high into the rugged San Jacinto Mountains, this home is a masterpiece of minimalism and organic architecture. Designed by Albert Frey, the father of desert modernism, this 800-square-foot retreat blends steel, glass, and native rock to create a space that is both futuristic and perfectly integrated with nature.

One of my favorite features? The small outdoor seat—a simple cushion placed on the rocky ledge outside, where Frey himself would sit and gaze over the valley. It’s an intimate and peaceful private perch that truly captures the serenity of desert living.

Fun Fact: Upon arrival, guests would ring a cowbell at the entrance—Frey’s signal to put on a pair of pants before welcoming them inside!

📍 Location: Private residence, viewable on select tours

The House of Tomorrow – Elvis Presley’s Honeymoon Hideaway

The House of Tomorrow: The Honeymoon Home of Elvis & Priscilla Presley

Also known as Elvis Presley’s honeymoon hideaway, this curved, space-age home was built in 1960 by William Krisel for the Alexander family. It features a floating fireplace, built-in futuristic furniture, and a master bedroom cantilevered 30 feet above the ground—designed for mid-century glam meets Hollywood luxury.

One of the coolest discoveries? A hidden pathway through the backyard citrus grove, which Elvis used to escape the paparazzi! He would follow this secret route to his waiting limo, unseen by fans and photographers.

📍 Location: 1350 Ladera Cir, Palm Springs, CA

Raymond Loewy House – Where the Pool Becomes the Living Room

The Raymond Loewy House: a mid-century architectural masterpiece with a living room pool.

Nestled in the prestigious Little Tuscany neighborhood, this mid-century modern masterpiece was designed in 1946 by Albert Frey for Raymond Loewy, the industrial design legend behind the Coca-Cola bottle, Lucky Strike packaging, and the Studebaker Avanti.

The swimming pool extends into the living room, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living—a concept way ahead of its time.

During my visit, I met the current owners, who have lived here for 39 years. They own an art gallery, and their fabulous paintings and sculptures are perfectly scattered throughout the home, adding even more personality to this already extraordinary space.

📍 Location: Private residence, open for special Modernism Week tours

The Palm Springs Art Museum – A Must-See for Modernism Lovers

David Hockey: Self Portrait

After exploring these stunning homes, I stopped by the Palm Springs Art Museum to see the David Hockney exhibit—a must-visit for modernist art lovers! Hockney’s bright swimming pool paintings and dreamy desert landscapes perfectly capture the essence of Palm Springs.

📍 Location: 101 Museum Dr, Palm Springs, CA
